What is the VeC Project?

The VeC Project is a Villanova College STEM initiative dedicated to providing students with hands-on, experiential learning in various STEM fields. Launched in 2018, the project was created to design and build an electric vehicle to compete in the University of Waterloo EV Challenge. Since then, the project has grown into a multi-disciplinary, student-led initiative with three core teams:

  • VeC Design Team – Responsible for the design and fabrication of new and improved vehicles beyond VeC99.
  • VeC Racing Team – Focuses on racing the current VeC99 vehicle and future models in the annual challenge.
  • VeC Communication & Sponsorship Team – Develops content to attract sponsors and shares the team's progress and achievements with the school community through social media and outreach.

Participation is open to all Villanova College high school students, with opportunities to apply for specialized roles within each team. Students in Grades 11 and 12 physics classes can take on lead design roles, where they apply concepts from mechanics (Grade 11) and electricity & magnetism (Grade 12) in real-world scenarios. However, students of all grade levels can play key roles in design, racing, and communications. Those who dedicate time and effort to the project gain invaluable STEM experience, enhancing their skills and strengthening their post-secondary applications.
