Leadership

Ambassadors are some of Villanova's most enthusiastic students, who share the spirit of VC when they lead tours for prospective students and their families. Ambassadors welcome the opportunity to answer questions about the day-to-day life of a VC student. Through the Ambassador program students gain great confidence as they engage and interact with both students and adults as well as improve their communication and interpersonal skills.

HOUSE Council is a group of Upper School students who promote spirit in the school through the planning and implementation of fun events throughout the school year, including “Minute to Win it”, cafeteria events, and Semi Formal. These events culminate in the HOUSE Olympics each spring and the presentation of the HOUSE Cup to the house with the most spirit points.

The Middle School Student Council provides students in Grade 6 to 8 with the opportunity to develop their leadership skills by working collaboratively with fellow classmates and students. The group meets weekly for the entire year and together plans activities to build community and add excitement to student life. Students engage in developing and executing a variety of activities from House Events to fundraising.

Students in grade 12 who are interested in further developing their leadership skills are encouraged to apply to this course, offered through the Religion Department. In addition to the grade 12 religion curriculum, this course places an emphasis on experiential leadership in a Catholic context and encourages students to explore their role as a leader within the Church and the greater community. Students participate in a three day training retreat in September and a week-long mission trip to work with Habitat for Humanity and Catholic Social Services. Through various texts, experiences and guest speakers, students are exposed, in a new way, to the Catholic Church.

The Peer Mentor program matches each grade 9 student with a senior student mentor. Mentors are proven role-models that live and promote the values of Villanova College. They are mature and friendly and good listeners. These caring students are trained to help make a grade 9 student's transition to high school easier by providing support in both the academic and social aspects of school life.

Through the Peer Tutoring initiative, Upper School students have the opportunity to work with younger students in the Middle School, helping them practice new skills, complete homework and improve organization. As a Peer Tutor, students develop leadership skills, foster positive relationships, help build self-confidence and really make a difference by helping others succeed.
