Bands & Choirs
As part of our regular curriculum, students can earn credits in instrumental music.
A number of extra-curricular opportunities are also available in bands, choirs and through the Theatre Arts Program.
The Intermediate Jazz Band is a Middle School ensemble for keen musicians in grades 6 through 8. Comprised of traditional band instruments as well as a rhythm section (drum kit, piano, bass and electric guitar), this group enjoys playing a variety of repertoire in the jazz, blues, and swing styles. They rehearse all year toward playing at the Christmas and Spring concerts with other VC performance groups.
The Senior Jazz Band ensemble is made up of students from grades 9 to 12. This year's group is "Super-Sized" with a total of 24 members, 7 more than a standard sized jazz band. The Sr. Jazz Band plays several styles of music including Swing, Funk, Salsa and Rock. Performance opportunities will include Christmas and Spring Concerts and a year-end festival.
The Middle School Drumliine is made up of students from grades 4 to 8. The following equipment is used: snare drums, tenor drums and bass drums, as well as orchestral percussion instruments including bells, xylophone, chimes, vibraphone and timpani. Members are introduced to techniques and rhythms that they can apply to their classroom instruments. The MS Drumline performs at Christmas and Spring Concerts.
The Senior Drumline ensemble is made up of students from grades 9 to 12. The following equipment is used: snare drums, tenor drums and bass drums, as well as orchestral percussion instruments including, bells, xylophone, chimes, vibraphone and timpani. Techniques, rudiments and complex rhythms are taught through a variety of grooves and styles. The Sr. Drumline performs at Homecoming, Community Events, Christmas and Spring Concerts.
